Overview

The ever-innovative brand brings back a long-time legend: the Corolla Hatchback, but this isn’t a throwback. This innovative hatchback contains the latest in automotive amenities from Toyota engineers, including everything from an advanced powertrain to cutting-edge infotainment and safety technology.

The Perfect Ride for…

If you want responsive acceleration, nimble handling, optimal fuel efficiency, enough room to seat five in a comfortable modern cabin with flexible cargo storage solutions, incredible style inside and out, and more and more and more, all at an affordable entry-level price, then you’ll want the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

Power

The Hatchback comes available in two trim levels: the SE and the slightly upgraded XSE. There's also an SE Nightshade edition for those who want to travel on the dark side. Both use a sprightly 2.0-Liter Dynamic Force 4-Cylinder engine, that offers 168 horsepower (more than enough for the Hatch’s lightweight body). The engine features the latest in performance-enhancing engineering from Toyota, like Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i), which uses the onboard computer to constantly monitor and adjust the intake valves to allow for more precise control of engine output and greatly increase fuel economy.

As for the transmission, automatic-inclined drivers will enjoy the smooth and efficient Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The CVT uses pulleys and belts instead of hard gears, so the shifting is smoother, and the transmission can find the most efficient “gear” for any driving condition. Plus, this automatic option still comes with a physical first-launch gear, so there’s no delay launching from a stop. Manual-fans will also enjoy the available Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) with rev-matching capability to really get the feel of the road and push the Hatch to its limits.

Drivers also have more precision engine controls at their fingers with the 3-way drive-mode selector. The selector offers three different settings to change multiple power and handling characteristics, including Normal, Sport, and ECO. Drivers can switch to Sport mode when the need for speed arises, and there will be a noticeable difference in acceleration times, shift points, and handling. On the other hand, the ECO mode will trim power slightly in various parts of the vehicle to provide the highest fuel efficiency, as high as an EPA-estimated 41 mpg on the highway with the SE CVT model.*

Key Features

Connectivity on the Go

The brand-exclusive Entune™ app suite offers the kind of modern connectivity you expect on the road today. All new Toyota models include a complimentary subscription to this innovative service that offers amenities, both inside and out of your vehicle. Inside, you can enjoy hands-free voice commands for entertainment (connecting to your device’s playlist or streaming content), navigation (like finding a route on your phone and sending it to your car before you even get in), and roadside assistance (from a personal concierge for both emergency and non-emergency needs). Outside, you can use the Entune app to remotely connect to your vehicle and control functions like ignition or door locks, all using your paired phone or smartwatch.

Infotainment on Tap

Toyota offers the all-new Hatch with the latest in infotainment features. Starting with a crystal-clear 8-inch LCD touch screen in the dash to access a wealth of amenities, like Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™. You’ll really enjoy the seemingly endless options for entertainment on the available premium sound system from JBL® with eight strategically placed speakers and 800 watts of power to create an immaculate listening experience. From the steering wheel, you’ll monitor telemetry data on the vivid 7-inch Multi-Information Display replacing the traditional analog instrumentation cluster, and you’ll effortlessly control multiple functions from the well-thought-out steering wheel controls.

Safety in Spades

The cutting-edge Toyota Safety Sense™ P (TSS-P) comes standard on the new Hatch. This robust safety system comes equipped with an entire host of features, including a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, and automatic high beams. These features work together to create the high-quality safety system that is Toyota Safety Sense™ P.

Alternative Options

Toyota's larger Avalon is a great option if you want the size and space of a sedan. These sleek vehicles offer plenty of legroom with the performance and design you crave. The Toyota Camry, on the other hand, is a great option if you're looking for something less compact. From a safety system you can feel to standard tech features you'll appreciate, the Camry makes a fantastic family car (or new college graduate car, or Sweet 16 car...).
